DALLAS, Ga. (AP) – Authorities say a man stole a Paulding County Fire Department rescue vehicle and went on a joyride, causing two accidents and damaging the truck.
The fire department says in a release that early Monday while firefighters were participating in a training session away from the station a man broke in and drove the vehicle out through a bay door.
The department says calls to 911 reported Rescue #3 being driven erratically, damaging several road signs and mailboxes. The vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic, causing an accident.
Rescue #3 was heavily damaged, the department says, after it was involved in another accident near Mt. Tabor Church Road.
The driver, in his 20s, attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by deputies.
No injuries were reported. The suspect was not identified.
