GALWAY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Police say the woman that’s been missing out of Galway for over a month has been found dead.
Police spent days conducting ground searches which did not turn up anything and neither did searches from the air.
Authorities say she was found deceased in a heavily wooded area behind a cemetery in East Galway, near where she was last seen, after extensive search efforts by NYSP canine teams and aviation assets. According to a GoFundMe page posted for her son, she was a victim of domestic violence and was not acting herself.
Her son is now staying with his grandparents where he remains safe and sound.
Hill was born in Amsterdam on September 6, 1985. She was the daughter of Richard and Sondra Shafer and a graduate of Galway High School, class of 2003.
The circumstances of her disappearance and death are still under investigation pending final toxicology results, but at this time officials do not suspect foul play to be involved.
Our thoughts are with her family during this difficult time.
