CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A 9-year-old boy has save his allowance all summer to start a book charity at the Montgomery County jail after his stepfather was in and out of jail.

Tyler Fugett said he and his mom traveled to a dozen stores to purchase more than 100 books to donate.

“I don’t want people to think bad things while they are in jail,” Tyler explained. “I want people to get out and not do bad things again.”

Tyler said he hopes to continue his book charity, “Time to Read,” throughout the summer. He said he also plans to donate books to hospitals, veteran’s homes and shelters.

All books in the Montgomery County jail are donated. Inmates are allowed to check out a Bible and three other books every two weeks.

“Since no tax payer money is used to purchase books, we rely 100% on donations from the community to stock our library,” said Chaplain Sexton. “Tyler’s generosity is truly appreciated.”

Tyler said he was moved to begin the book charity after watching his stepfather repeatedly spend time in and out of jail.

Anyone who would like to donate paperback books to the jail should call 931-648-0611, Ext. 13021.
