bernnie brown trialLAURENS, SC (WSPA) – The jury has found Bennie Brown guilty of murder of his girlfriend Nicole Kingsborough and Laurens Co. deputy Roger Rice.

He was found not guilty of attempted murder.

He was sentenced to life in prison.

Earlier, the jury in the Bennie Brown murder trial told judge they reached a verdict on some charges but not all.

The judge told jurors to continue to deliberate. The judge says if the jury doesn’t agree on a verdict, he’ll declare a mistrial.

The attorneys did not present any witnesses for his defense.

Brown was charged with killing his longtime girlfriend Nicole Kingsborough out of her job in Fountain Inn in July of 2011. Authorities say Brown then fled to a house in Clinton and after a standoff with deputies, he shot and killed Deputy Roger Rice.

Clarissa Moore, Brown’s cousin, testified that he called her in a frantic state and admitted to killing Kingsborough.

A Fountain Inn police sergeant later testified that he found Kimbrough’s body in her Dodge Charger, outside of her job.  Kingsborough’s mother became so emotional, she had to leave the courtroom.

Brown was charged with two counts of murder for Kingsborough’s death and five counts of attempted murder. Through his attorney, Brown admitted to shooting Rice, but said he didn’t know it was a deputy; he thought it was a mob.

Solicitors wanted this to be a death penalty case, but a court ruled Brown has a mental disability.
