Woman beaten in downtown Greenville, residents want more cameras

GREENVILLE, SC (WSPA) – A suspect is still on the loose in Greenville after attacking a woman with a baseball bat and robbing her over the weekend.

The incident happened on Buncombe Street on Sunday morning.

The incident report states, a 51-year-old woman was hit in the face with a wooden bat by a man hiding in a bush.

The suspect fled the scene after stealing $20 from the woman.

Authorities say they don’t have any surveillance video of the incident and that’s a major part of the problem in trying to identify a suspect.

Residents say downtown could use more surveillance cameras to keep the community safe.

“It wouldn’t hurt to have more, I mean, those of us who live here and lead a good clean life certainly wouldn’t mind being on the camera, and if it can keep crime out I think it’d be a great thing,” says Nicole Jordan.

Greenville Police say the city is in the process of upgrading their cameras downtown to be able to cover more ground, identify suspects, and keep them off the street.
