Protesters arrested after blocking Church St., I-385 S in Greenville

GREENVILLE, SC (WSPA) – Greenville Police say they have made several arrests as protesters tried to block I-385.

Police had told protesters earlier in the night to stay out of the road but say they did not comply.

The organizer of the protest Derrick Quarles and member of Upstate Black Lives Matter was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

Protesters had blocked Church Street in Greenville and I-385 southbound, Saturday night.

Officers believe the protest has broken up but they are monitoring the situation.

Drivers are being asked to avoid Church Street, the intersection of Academy and North Streets, and I-385 near Laurens Road.

Police have blocked off part of downtown near Coffee and E North St with signs.

Police are diverting traffic in the area.
