MARLBOROUGH, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A Marlborough woman is under arrest after police say she knowingly left her 10-month-old infant daughter in a bathtub slowly filling with water, causing the child to drown.
The New York State Police arrested 25-year-old Kayla Pagan, of Marlboro, N.Y., for Criminally Negligent Homicide, a felony, in connection with the infant’s death.
State Police responded on Friday to assist the Marlborough Police Department with an investigation into the drowning death of a 10-month-old infant Friday evening.
Police say the ensuing investigation determined that Pagan intended to give her daughter a bath, but after placing the infant in the bathtub with the water running, she left the bathroom.
According to police Pagan then left her daughter unattended in the bathroom for an unreasonable amount of time while the bathtub continued to fill with water, drowning the infant.
When the infant’s father arrived home from work, police say he found the child still in the bathtub and attempted CPR.
The child was transported by Mobil Life Support to St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh, where she was pronounced deceased.
Pagan was arraigned in the Town of Marlborough Court on Saturday and remanded to Ulster County Jail in Lieu of $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond. She is scheduled back in court later this week.
