WOODRUFF, S.C. (WSPA) – A man is behind bars after a deadly shooting five months ago on Sharpe Street, according to Woodruff police.
Adriel Nicholas Garnett has been charged with murder in the shooting death of 40-year-old veteran and father of 10, Cecil Gilliam.
Police say Gilliam was gunned down just feet from his own home in his family’s longtime neighborhood.
Police were told the men got into an argument before Garnett opened fire and shot Gilliam multiple times. By the time officers arrived, he was dead.
Garnett was arrested in Richland County. He has been charged with murder, disorderly conduct, failure to stop on police command, resisting arrest, and filing a false police report of a misdemeanor violation, according to online jail records.
He is being held at the Richland County Detention Center as of Sunday afternoon.
Garnett was involved in a Public Disorderly Conduct incident in Columbia which led him giving false information to officers, and then resisting arrest charge, reports say.
He will see a judge in Columbia for those charges and then will be extradited back to Spartanburg by the Spartanurg County Sheriff’s Office to face the Murder charge in the case of Cecil Gilliam.
