GREENVILLE (WSPA) – More than 21,000 children in the Upstate go to bed hungry each night.
One out of every five people in the Upstate missed a meal last year, simply because they did not have the necessary resources to get food.
Food banks like Harvest Hope are constantly working to fight the growing hunger problem in the Upstate, but they need your help to feed those in need.
Saturday, Harvest Hope Food Bank held their 4th annual Extra Mile Hunger Run to help raise money for the food bank, and to help fight the growing hunger problem in the Upstate.
The 5K and Family Fun Run were held at Furman University, and all the money raised from ticket sales went towards the food bank to help with purchasing food.
Workers with Harvest hope say the summer months are particularly hard on food banks, because donations are down, but the need for food is up.
