911 operator in Easley home invasion recognized for great job

EASLEY, SC (WSPA) – Suzanne Guthrie, the 911 operator who took the call during an Easley home invasion, is being recognized for her outstanding job performance.

“Congratulations to Suzanne Guthrie for her professionalism and calm demeanor in dealing with a recent 911 call about a home invasion in progress. Suzanne was able to keep the caller on the line, while relaying critical information to the responding officer. Suzanne was recognized for her outstanding job performance during the intense situation. Suzanne is pictured here with Sheriff Rick Clark. Well done, Suzanne!”

The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office released the 911 call for the burglary that led to a deputy shooting a suspect.

In the 911 call, the victim is hiding in a bathroom while a man broke into her home.

In the recording, gunshots can be heard after yelling.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, 18-year-old Franklin Reed Styles broke into the woman’s home through a back door.

Styles was armed with a rifle and a handgun, and pointed the handgun at the deputy before the deputy started shooting.

Styles was shot and has been taken to the hospital. The officer was not injured, according to deputies.

Styles found the rifle and handgun inside the house just moments before the deputy arrived, according to the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say this was an isolated incident and that Styles had no previous relationship with the homeowners.

Styles was released from the hospital on Friday and taken into custody by the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office.

Styles is charged with Burglary, Grand Larceny, Pointing & Presenting a Firearm, and Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime.

The deputy involved in the shooting, Michael McClatchy has since returned to active duty work following an internal investigation.
