GREER, SC (WSPA) – One person is dead after a house fire in Greer.
It happened around 7:15 a.m. Wednesday on Poinsett Street.
The coroner says 90-year-old John Benjamin Norris was killed.
The cause of death was smoke inhalation.
Greer Fire tells us they arrived on scene to heavy smoke coming through the house.
Firefighters went into the home and found Norris outside of the bedroom.
According to Greer Fire CPR was used but was unsuccessful.
The fire is believed to have started in the bedroom.
SLED assisted in the investigation. The house has now been turned over the family.
All four lanes of Poinsett Street were blocked from Pine Street to Memorial Drive Extension.
The road is now back open.
The cause of the fire has not been released.
