TRAVELERS REST, SC (WSPA) – An Upstate firefighter worked for two years, before being disciplined, after being arrested.
Brandon Christopher Smith was arrested by Travelers Rest Police in July of 2014, after a 13-year-old said he made sexual advances and touched her inappropriately.
Police found out about the complaint after a Youth Group received a letter from the victim detailing the assault.
The church then took the note to the Travelers Rest Police Department.
After interviewing the victim and Smith, they decided to charge Smith with Assault and Battery 2nd Degree.
In February of 2015, Smith received another charge of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a minor, an attempt of a lewd act on a person under than 16.
Smith has been employed by the South Greenville Fire Department, and was background checked when he was hired, according to the Chief Ken Taylor.
Taylor said that this arrest happened after the background check, so it would not have showed up.
7 News informed Taylor of the arrest on Tuesday and upon confirmation, some action was taken against Smith.
Taylor cannot discuss the nature of the discipline because of policies.
Smith’s charges are still pending.
