ROWLETT, TX (KTVT / CBS News) – The unbreakable bond between a Rowlett Police Officer and a little girl is now being celebrated in an adorable way.
The photos mark an anniversary neither will forget.
Corporal Patrick Ray couldn’t turn down this tea party invite.
“We’re best friends, right? Forever,” said Ray.
He first met Bexley a year ago. She choked on a coin and his body camera was rolling as he got her breathing again.
“It was the most beautiful sound I’d ever heard in my entire life,” Ray says.
Her mother never wants to forget.
“This is a day that I will celebrate. Because I have her,” said Tammy Norvell, Bexley’s mother.
Norvell hired a professional photographer to capture her now nearly 3-year-old daughter and her favorite police officer.
“Whenever I do ask my children what do you want to pray for,” said Norvell, “Bexley always says ‘Officer P. Ray. Officer P. Ray.’.”
Bexley’s brother prays for him, too.
“The night of the Dallas shooting, he asked if Officer P. Ray was okay,” Norvell says, “I wasn’t ready for that question from my 5-year-old.”
With so much negativity directed at police, Tammy Norvell hopes these pictures show how she sees them.
“I want people to have an image of the sweeter side.”
Corporal Ray expects he’ll hear some teasing.
“I’m sure I’m probably gonna get a tea set or something,” Ray says.
He won’t mind one bit.
“We’re buddies. I can watch her get married. I can watch her have a family. She could have lost her life that day and I got super lucky.”
