Man rams stolen car into police SUV

FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) — A man faces numerous charges after Fishers police say he stole a Jeep and rammed a department vehicle Sunday morning.

Officers were called to a McDonald’s restaurant parking lot at 9611 North by Northeast Blvd., near 96th Street and I-69, around 10:30 a.m. on report of a suspicious person.

As his driver’s license was being checked, 25-year-old Gregory Gardner II backed a Jeep into a police SUV, narrowly missing an officer, according to Fishers police.

Officers say he drove a few moments before crashing the Jeep into a curb. Gardner jumped out and attempted to carjack two occupied vehicles, police say.

He was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit. Investigators later discovered the Jeep Wrangler had been stolen Saturday night in Marion County.

Gardner faces the following preliminary charges:

  • Robbery — Level 6 Felony (two counts)
  • Resisting law enforcement in a Vehicle — Level 6 Felony
  • Receiving stolen property — Level 6 Felony
  • Possession of a controlled substance — Level 6 Felony
  • Possession of a syringe — Level 6 Felony
  • Reckless possession of paraphernalia — C Misdemeanor
  • Criminal recklessness — B Misdemeanor

He was booked into the Hamilton County Jail.
