INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — High school students could have the highest rates of diagnosed anxiety disorders, at least in Indianapolis, according to one doctor.

Child psychologist Dr. Deann Harvey from the Franciscan St. Francis Health Network says statistically she’s seeing the highest rates of diagnosed anxiety disorders in high school.

She says a combination of social issues, technology and the amount of activities has led to the high rate of diagnosed anxiety disorders in high schoolers.

But parents fear not, there are steps you can take to help kids with anxiety.

Dr. Havey says that if you start seeing a significant change in attitude or behavior then do something about it.

“So it’s not the end of the world if your teen needs help and don’t put your head in the sand and go into complete denial because it will spiral and lead to other issues like depression,” said Dr. Harvey.

If your students’ anxiety is new to you here are some tips:

1. If you see a difference, get professional help. It may be better for your teen in the long run.
2. Lower expectations or help relieve stressors by cutting back on activities.
3.Get the school involved. A lot of districts now have specialists or even curriculum dealing with anxiety and other mental health issues.
