Missing Mentally Disabled Teen Renews Calls For Alert System

(WSPA) – A local attorney is calling for the state to adopt a system to track down missing mentally disabled adults.
It comes in the wake of the disappearance of Skyla Phillips, 18. Phillips who has the mental capacity of a 10-year old, was reunited with her mother August 22 after being gone for four days.
Neil Caesar, who heads up the Health Law Center in Greenville, says a system similar to an Amber or Silver alert would have made a huge difference in this case.
“The program can be administered in a cost-effective manner and it could be a safety valve and a lifesaver for people,” said Caesar.
11 states include Georgia and North Carolina already have similar alerts systems in place.
