Small business owner using sneakers to encourage studying

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) — An Upstate man is using his small business to encourage students to study and work hard in school.

SHOES1Upstate Footworkx, in Spartanburg, opened in October 2015.

The store is a place to buy, sell, and trade name brand sneakers.

Owner Patrick Haith says shoes have become part of the culture and are often a big priority to teens.

He’s using the platform to encourage kids, teens, and young adults to put school first.

If a student brings in a report card with at least two As and two Bs, it’s automatically $20 off any pair.

A high school diploma also earns the big discount.

“If you help motivate one kid, that’s a good enough reason to do what I do,” said Haith.

Haith says hundreds of students have already proudly brought in their report cards and diplomas — showing off their hard work.SHOES3

He hopes to play a small role in getting students off ‘on the right foot,’ this school year.
