SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – Even younger boys will be able to get involved with Boy Scouts. A new pilot program called “Lions” will allow the Cub Scouts to include boys in kindergarten.
The Palmetto Council as well as Blue Ridge are involved in the pilot project. After this year, they’ll evaluate it and figure out if it should be put in to place all over the country.
Taylor Thomas, Senior District Executive for the Boy Scouts of America Palmetto Council, says it’s all about having fun, but also teaching leadership, fitness, and being a good person.
“At the core of it, scouting is a value is a character organization and that’s what we’re there to teach them and we’re just using the outdoors as our lab as our classroom to do that,” Thomas explained.
There are several events on Saturday, August 27th at 9:00 a.m. where those interested can build and launch rockets.
