Theme parks now offering free mosquito repellent

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) — Several Florida theme parks are stepping up to do their part in fighting the Zika virus.

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay and Adventure Island are offering guests complimentary EPA-approved insect repellent. The park tells News Channel 8 the free repellent is located at specific areas of the park and available for guests to self-administer.

Repellent will also be made available at locations throughout other Florida parks including SeaWorld Orlando, Aquatica Orlando, Discovery Cove, in addition to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay and Adventure Island.

Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando are also giving out free repellent. Disney set up stations at all four central Florida parks and the Disney Springs shopping and dining area.

Disney hotel guests will also find cans of repellent in their rooms along with a note about Disney’s mosquito prevention program. The information doesn’t specifically mention the Zika, however concern for the virus is at an all-time high.

As of last week, Pinellas County has its first case of non-travel related Zika, which is the first non-travel related case of the Zika virus in the U.S. There are at least 42 non-travel related cases in three counties.
