ATMORE, AL (WKRG) – Deborah Harrison says Cleveland Cunningham stabbed the corrections officer in the temple.
Harrison tells News 5 her niece, who works at Holman Correctional Facility near Atmore, who on duty when Cunningham ambushed the officer. The attack happened Thursday when the officer refused to give Cunningham an extra plate of food at lunch.
Prison officials haven’t released the officer’s name, but say his condition has been upgraded from critical to serious.
Cunningham, who is serving time for three armed robberies and assault, now faces attempted murder charges.
Holman is still on lockdown.
