Fire chief’s wife thrown from SUV, dies in Spartanburg Co. crash

SPARTANBURG CO., SC (WSPA) – A driver has died after Highway Patrol says they were thrown from their SUV during a crash in Spartanburg County.

The driver of a 2004 Chevrolet SUV was not wearing a seatbelt when Highway Patrol says the car went off the right side of Highway 92, over corrected, and went off the left side of the road.

They say the driver then lost control and the SUV overturned in the road.

The coroner says 64-year-old Beth Bishop Godfrey died in the crash and was the wife of a local fire chief in Spartanburg County.

Beth Godfrey was the wife of Ronnie Godfrey, chief of Cross Anchor Fire Department for 16 years.

No one else was in the car at the time of the crash.
