NEWBERRY CO., S.C. (WSPA) – A school resource officer was assaulted today while trying to stop a fight on a school bus, according to the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office.
They say two male juveniles were fighting on the bus Wednesday morning.
The school resource officer and the bus driver tried to separate the suspects.
While the school resource officer was trying to secure one of the suspects, the other, a 14-year-old, jumped on her back and hit her several times in the face.
The officer was able to gain control of the 14-year-old and both were taken into custody.
The 14-year-old was charged with Assault on a Police Officer While Resisting Arrest, and both were charged for the fighting incident.
The 14-year-old has been sent to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia.
The officer was taken for medical treatment and had a splint placed on her wrist for an injury she received during the fight.
