NC AMBER Alert girl found alive, chained to a tree

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WSPA) – Six-year-old Stefanny Lenneth Lopez-Castro has been found alive and in good condition, according to Lt. Jerry Brewer of the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.

Douglas Edwards, 46, of Wilmington is in custody and charged with first-degree kidnapping.

According to officials, he is a registered sex offender.

The NC Department of Public Safety says he has 2 prior sex offense convictions.

In 1996 he was convicted of Sex Offense 1st Degree and Indecent Liberty Minor.

The victim was 6-years-old.

The sheriff’s office says the girl was found Thursday morning about two miles from where she was taken.

WECT reports that a witness said the girl was chained to a tree when search teams found her.
