Arrests after false 911 clown sightings calls say GA deputies

Brandon Moody (L) and Rebecca Moody (R) (Troup County Sheriff's Office)

LAGRANGE, Ga (WRBL) — Two people are in jail Thursday morning after deputies say they made false reports about seeing threatening people dressed as clowns in the area.

Sgt. Stewart Smith says deputies and investigators with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office responded to 3483 Hammett Road after a 911 call about people dressed as clowns standing outside a white van.

The investigators say when they got to the scene, the van’s driver told them he ran out of gas and he gave deputies permission to search his van. They say there was no evidence of wrongdoing inside.

Afterwards, Smith says deputies contacted the man who made the 911 call about seeing the clowns. Smith says 26-year-old Brandon Jerome Moody admitted he called 911 about seeing clowns hanging around a white van on Hammett Road.

Deputies say after they questioned him more, Moody changed his story and told investigators he actually saw the clowns and the van the day before.

Finally, Smith’s report says Moody admitted to making up the story about seeing the clowns and he knew the stories about clowns in the area and schools on lockdown.

The suspect says his sister-in-law 27-year-old Rebecca Moody also made false 911 calls about the clowns.

After listening to the call recordings, Rebecca Moody and Brandon Moody were arrested and taken to the Troup County Jail without further incident.

Both Rebecca Moody and Brandon Moody face charges of Obstruction and Unlawful Conduct during a 911 Call.
