WALHALLA, SC (WSPA) – 230 Oconee County employees did not get money deposited into their bank accounts after a data breach involving the payroll service the county uses.
The Sheriff’s Office says they do not have an exact dollar amount from the breach but they are working with SLED and the FBI to investigate.
The county is also working with the company providing payroll services to find the source of the breach.
County Administrator Scott Moulder says the breach is isolated to the payroll and that the county’s other accounts are not in any danger.
“We have appropriately notified the financial institutions that the county does business with to make them aware of the situation,” says Moulder.
The affected employees were later paid by check.
