LAURENS CO. (WSPA) – The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office is hosting the fifth annual Deputy Roger Rice Memorial Motorcycle Ride Sunday afternoon.
Deputy Rice was killed during a shootout with a murder suspect in 2011. His accused killer was sentenced to life in prison in 2016.
Since his death, the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office has hosted worked to keep his memory alive. They’ve held the motorcycle ride each year in his honor, and the I-26 and Highway 56 interchange is now the Deputy Roger Rice Memorial intersection.
Registration for the ride starts at 12 p.m. and the ride starts at 2 p.m. Festivities, including food and music, start at 12 p.m. at Destination Power Sports at 23165 Hwy 76 in Clinton, SC.
The money from the ride goes to the Deputy Roger Rice Ride-On Fund. The non-profit charity was established by the family of Deputy Rice, and helps law enforcement officers and their families during their time of need or crisis.
