CLEMSON, SC (WSPA) – Clemson University Police (CUPD) say a sex assault reported on Sept. 11 didn’t happen.

CUPD and SLED investigated the sexual assault and say the alleged victim confirmed that it didn’t happen.

The police chief said they saw discrepancies in her story and timeline and looked at video cameras in the area and couldn’t find anything.

They say the woman never said why she did it.

“Our investigation revealed that this incident did not occur as reported, so we felt it was important to share that information with the campus community in order to alleviate any fear and anxiety the report may have caused,” said CUPD Chief Eric Hendricks. “Ultimately, we are thankful that no one was harmed in this incident.”

Early on the morning of Sept. 11, police issued a Safe Alert message over the apparent abduction and sexual assault of the woman student on or near campus.

“Members of the campus community are encouraged to remain vigilant with regards to their personal safety and that of their friends and colleagues, and to continue to report instances of sexual misconduct to CUPD or other responsible parties so the appropriate support can be provided to victims in these situations.”

Police are still trying to determined whether charges will be filed.
