Anderson Meals on Wheels is holding their annual oyster roast, BBQ, and low country boil dinner to raise money.
The organization is hoping to raise more than $25,000 to cover costs of the event and be able to serve more people in the community.
Organizer Laurie Ashley said there are more than 150 people in the community that need their services but they cannot serve them meals because of increased food prices.
Ashley said grocery stores used to donate a lot more food than they’re able to know and the organization has not found a way to recover from that loss. They use volunteers and staff members to deliver and pack meals.
For many people they serve Ashley said, this meal might be the only meal they have for the day and the only interaction they have with other people. The delivery drivers check on many older adults and people with disabilities who may not be able to cook for themselves.
The fundraiser will include large T.V’s and a tailgating atmosphere so fans won’t have to miss their favorite football games.
The fun kicks off at 5 on Saturday, Sept 24, 2016, at the Civic Center. $40 tickets are available HERE.
