Mom threw her toddlers from window say police in RI

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Police said they had a hard time dealing with a Providence mother who’s accused of throwing her 2-year-old boys out of a window over the weekend.

Officers arrested Benita Barbour on Sunday after eyewitnesses reported seeing her push the twin toddlers from a first-floor window and onto the porch of their Alverson Avenue home.

Barbour, 37, was belligerent, violent, and showed no remorse for her alleged actions, according to the police report obtained by Eyewitness News.

Police said they arrived at the scene to find the toddlers were in pajamas and crying in the middle of the street, their faces bruised.

Police said they’re also investigating the boys’ father. Based on what eyewitnesses reported, they said he’s accused of throwing the children back into the house through the same window before Barbour allegedly threw them out a second time.

According to police, the father then tried to push the boys through the front door but Barbour slammed it shut, knocking one of the boys to the ground.

One person captured the incident on cell phone video, police said.

The two boys were transported to Hasbro Children’s Hospital. They were treated and released to the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF).

Police said the incident happened about an hour after someone called DCYF to report Barbour for possible abuse.

Barbour was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. Police said the incident remains under investigation and she could face additional charges.
