NEWBERRY, SC (WSPA) – A 73-year-old woman was kidnapped, tied up, and robbed at her home in Newberry County, Wednesday night.
Deputies say the victim was getting into her car when a man who had been hiding in her car kicked her in the chest and forced her inside her home where he tied her up using a phone cord and duct tape.
He then took money and jewelry before forcing her into her car – still bound – and driving her around then took her back to her house and demanded more money.
The victim was able to remove enough of her bindings to call 911, according to deputies. They say she was taken to the hospital with a broken collar bone and other minor injuries.
The suspect took the victim’s car and left the scene before leaving it near Boyd’s Crossing Road.
Investigators say the man had dread locks and was 5 foot 7 inches tall and weighed approximately 150 pounds. He was wearing a red t-shirt, blue jeans, and a black hoodie.
Deputies say the suspect was familiar with the victim before the kidnapping but would not say what connection the two had.
The Sheriff’s Office says they are offering a reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of the suspect.
