GREENVILLE (WSPA) – Former Greenville Police Chief Harold Jennings has died.
The announcement Friday morning came from the office of Greenville’s Mayor. Chief Jennings was 94 years old.
Jennings served as the chief of the Greenville Police Department from 1975 to 1987.
“Even before the concept of community policing became popular, Chief Harold Jennings knew instinctively the importance of police-community relations,” said Greenville Mayor Knox White in a written statement.
“As police chief, he both embodied and inspired teamwork and professionalism in his department and he cared deeply about his officers and their families. Chief Jennings was a major law enforcement figure over many decades in this area.”
The mayor also said, “while Greenville has lost a giant, the Harold C. Jennings Foundation will sustain his memory and continue to ensure the long reach of his legacy.”
