Charlotte Police HQ evacuated after suspicious package found

CHARLOTTE, NC (WSPA) – Charlotte-Mecklenburg police evacuated their headquarters after a suspicious package was found by an employee.

Police say the package was removed from the building and taken to a remote location to be “rendered safe.”

The package was discovered just before 5pm Tuesday.

According to police, the package was discovered just as activists were entering the building to deliver demands to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney. It’s unclear if the package was found in the same area or if there was any connection.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
