Coroner IDs elderly man struck by teen in Anderson Co.

PIEDMONT, SC (WSPA) – A 76-year-old man was struck by a teen driver while trying to cross the street in Anderson County, the Anderson County Coroner’s office says.

Firefighters and EMS were called to the scene on Shiloh Church Road shortly before 8AM, Tuesday, according to SC Highway Patrol.

76-year-old James Givens, of Piedmont, was struck after he took out his trash and decided to walk across the street to talk to his neighbor, the coroner says.

The coroner says the person who struck Givens is a 16-year-old Wren High School student. The student was headed to school, the coroner says.

SC Highway Patrol says charges are pending.
