Get ready to taste and see some of the best BBQ and cookers around.
The 16th annual Squealin on the Square KCBS cook-off is this weekend in Laurens, September 30 and Oct 1.
Cookers from all over the region will come to Laurens to try to win for best BBQ. More than 20,000 others will come to taste and watch.
All the money raised here at the festival goes right back into downtown Laurens.
Cookers will be stationed at the town square and organizer Jonathan Irick said many cookers will camp out with their food all night.
Organizers said that proceeds will go to downtown revitalization in Laurens, business assistance programs, grants for property owners and community improvements like more trees in the area.
Irick said they are also encouraging new businesses to come.
More than 40 judges will come to pick the winning BBQ and winners will move on to the Jack Daniels Invitational in Kentucky.
Squealin on the square is a state qualifier event.
Irick encouraged visitors to come and see arts and crafts, food, music, a car and tractor show, petting zoo and new this year, kid’s area with rides and a mechanical bull.
It’s free, runs from noon on Friday to 8 on Saturday and visitors should bring money for food tickets.
