Woman dies after being pulled from Polk Co. fire

Polk County Fatal Fire

POLK CO., NC (WSPA) – A Polk County woman has died after firefighters pulled her from a burning home on Friday morning.

Green Creek Fire Rescue says the fire was reported just after 10:30 a.m. on Wilkerson Hollow Lane.

Firefighters found smoke coming from the mobile home and found the victim in the living room near the front door.

The victim died from her injuries at Spartanburg Medical Center.

The fire marshal identified the woman as 55-year-old Kathleen Dixson.

Firefighters say the fire appears to be accidental and say there were no working smoke detectors in the home.

“We greatly appreciate the response from our other emergency agencies, and extend our condolences to the family,” said Green Creek Fire Chief Michael Herman. “With Fire Prevention Week approaching we are all reminded of the importance of working smoke detectors and the fire departments in Polk County are able to provide smoke detectors to our residents.”
