Man wanted in kidnapping arrested at NC campground

HENDERSON CO., NC (WSPA) – Henderson County deputies say they have arrested a Tennessee man wanted in Missouri for the kidnapping of a teen.

Deputies responded to the North Mills River Campground in Pisgah National Forest on Monday for a possible missing/wanted persons.

22-year-old Kenneth Dylan Whitehead of Bristol, TN and a 13-year-old girl were found at the campground.

Deputies discovered through a criminal records check that Whitehead was wanted out of Dent County, Missouri for kidnapping the girl. Both were taken to the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office to speak with detectives who later charged Whitehead with two felony counts of first-degree Statutory Rape of a Child under 15.

Deputies say that the girl was placed in protective custody of the Henderson County Department of Social Services.

Whitehead remains in the Henderson County Detention Facility under a $1,020,000 secured bond. The girl has been reunited with family.
