PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (AP) – Two Palm Springs Police Officers were killed in a shooting Saturday afternoon, a third officer was injured while responding to a family dispute.
The shooter is still at large, according to KESQ-TV.
The two officers were identified as 35-year-veteran Jose Gilbert Vega and Lesley Zerebny. Zerebny has just returned from maternity leave, according to the chief. Vega was due to retire in December.
The chief says officers were called by a woman who needed help with her adult son. Then they arrived, a man refused to open the door and threatened to shoot officers.
Three officers were taken to the hospital where two later died.
