Matthew still category 1 hurricane as it moves away from SC

(WSPA) – Matthew is still a hurricane as it passes near Cape Lookout, North Carolina Saturday night.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Matthew still has winds of 75 MPH as of 11 PM Saturday, a minimal hurricane.

The storm is expected to push farther away from land and slowly weaken.

The threat of heavy rain and storm surge is over for South Carolina but flooding continues where the heavy rain fell.

In her update to media on Saturday, Gov. Haley said that 833,627 customers are without power in South Carolina.

Two sections of I-95 are still closed and barrier islands are inaccessible.

Hurricane warnings have been cancelled for South Carolina, but continue for parts of the lower NC coast.
