Spartanburg City Police Officers and Firefighters are in line to get pay raises after city council approved a first reading.
Council is looking to approve $235,000 to go to raises for officers that have been on the force for 7 to 14 years. Officers within that time frame missed out on certain raises during the recession, causing their pay to not be competitive to other markets.
Currently, Spartanburg Police are down 14 officers, and these potential pay increases could help retain those experienced officers.
The vote must pass 2 more times before the pay increases are official, but it is expected for council to pass it.
