Man shot by troopers during flooding ID’d in NC

LUMBERTON, NC (WSPA) – A 56-year-old man has been identified after being shot and killed by Highway Patrol in Lumberton, NC during search and rescue operations, Monday.

Dennis Hunt of Lumberton was shot by Highway Patrol after they say he became hostile towards officers and displayed a handgun.

Hunt was shot by Sergeant J.F. Hinson, a 13-year veteran assigned to Robeson County. Hinson has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.

The NC State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting.
