Having already extended the high school football season one week due to Hurricane Matthew, the South Carolina High School League Executive Committee voted 10-2 Wednesday to add an additional week to the regular season as a result of several areas in the lower part of the state being further impacted by the storm.
The story was first reported by The State.
Thus, the playoffs will now begin for all in November 18th, which would have been Week 13. Championships are now moved back to the weekend of December 17th and 18th, the same weekend as the Shrine Bowl. The move last week had already created an overlap with the North-South All-Star Game on December 11th.
Schools in our area will end their regular seasons in Week 10, October 28th, and thus have two open weeks prior to the start of the playoffs.
