Man found dead in car hours after crash reported in Asheville

ASHEVILLE, NC (WSPA) – Police say they found a driver dead in his car Monday morning after a report of a car crash last night.

They say they got a call about a possible crash on New Haw Creek Rd. around 9 p.m. Sunday night.

They and neighbors searched but didn’t see a crash scene.

They say the vehicle was sighted over the side of an embankment on this morning after sunrise.

Dolphus Koon, 72, was found dead inside the vehicle.

They say he was traveling in the right lane heading southwest toward Asheville when it appears he lost control, crossing the left lane and going down the embankment.

They are still investigating.
