Truck driver falls asleep, causing I-85 crash

GREENVILLE, SC (WSPA)– The ramp from Woodruff Road to 385 northbound is back open after this morning’s crash.

Greenville Police say an 18-wheeler wrecked and leaked fuel. At least 200 gallons of diesel fuel was spilled after the accident, police say.

The fuel is contained, but crews are waiting on DHEC to come and clean up the spill.

The 18-wheeler was traveling northbound on I-85 when the driver fell asleep and lost control on the truck, police say.

The driver then drove through the guardrail and collided with cement barriers on the exit ramp at 51C (I-385 N).

The driver was not hurt.

The trucking company also has to offload the frozen items the truck was carrying.

Police are asking everyone to avoid this area.
