Postal worker caught on camera dumping mail into woods in GA

Mail dumped into woods in Georgia

DEKALB CO., GA (CNN/WSB) – The U.S. Postal Service is investigating why one of their employees dumped a pile of mail in the woods.

His actions were caught on camera and has just about everyone wondering: why?

It took five US Postal investigators more than two hours to pick up every piece of mail after they were alerted to a video apparently showing a postal worker dumping mail into a ditch.

The HOA president of a Decatur subdivision on Longview Walk said she saw the postal worker do this Tuesday and recorded it with her cell phone.

“At one point he actually stopped and took a break like he was tired and continued to toss mail and he eventually just drove off like it was normal,” said Kellie Campbell.

It’s a federal offense and US Postal officials say they were appalled by the video and pictures.

They sent a statement that reads “The Postal Service condemns, in the strongest possible sense, behavior that jeopardizes the security and sanctity of the U.S. Mail – or threatens to tarnish the reputation and high level of trust that the vast majority of our employees work so hard to uphold. We are investigating this matter.

“A government worker is doing that kind of stuff, it’s just ridiculous, there have been times where I didn’t receive my mail and to think that this is what’s happening?” says resident Neil Carr.

Carr lives in the subdivision and he’s concerned about other postal workers doing the same thing.

“How many other rogue postal office guys do we have?” Carr says.

Another expressed the risk that some residents could have their identity stolen.
