UNION (WSPA) – A 19-year old man was arrested on weapons and drug charges after police pulled him over in Union. Officers say a woman was holding a baby in the back seat when they stopped the car.
Joseph Lee Ridings, 19, was charged with possession to distribute marijuana and unlawful carrying of a handgun by Union Police. He was also given a citation because he was driving with a beginner’s permit.
Officers were looking for a car that matched the description of the one being driven by Ridings just before 7:00 p.m. Monday on Union Boulevard. Police were looking for a suspect after a man reportedly pulled a gun on another man at Odell’s in Monarch according to Union County Sheriff’s deputies.
A woman was holding a baby in the back seat of the car during the traffic stop.
Police say they found 9 mm handgun under the driver seat of the car. In the Union Police incident report, officers say they smelled an odor of marijuana. Officers say they found a bag with a green, leafy substance inside along with a set of digital scales.
Ridings was charged and arrested. He was still in the Union County Detention Center as of Tuesday morning.
The Union County Sheriff’s Office says a juvenile victim says Ridings pulled a gun and pointed it at him from his car earlier in the evening. A woman was reported to be holding a baby in the back seat.
That incident led to the report in the city for police to be on the lookout for that suspect vehicle.
