Car fire that burned elderly man not suspicious, Greer police say

GREER, SC (WSPA) – A car fire that burned an elderly man at a cemetery in Greer is not considered suspicious, according to police.

The driver of the car was taken to the hospital after being pulled from his burning car at Wood Memorial Park, according to the Tyger River Fire Department.

Police say the fire started in the engine area of the car and the driver was known to visit the area. Investigators are working to find out how the fire started and why the man didn’t get out of the car.

The man was taken to Spartanburg Medical Center before being taken to the burn center in Augusta, Georgia.

There is no update on the condition of the victim.

SLED is assiting in the investigation.

Firefighters were called for the car fire around 5:20pm Mnonday.
