HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) — A man is in jail after reportedly attempting to carjack a woman that tried to assist him after a car accident, according to a release from Hoover Police.
Roderick Ruthus McCloud Jr., 20, was reportedly spotted standing near his car after a single vehicle wreck on I-65 South between Alford Avenue and Montgomery Highway around 12:31 a.m.
A female driving in the area saw McCloud and stopped to offer assistance. According to the report, the man stated he didn’t need any help and then ran towards the woman’s vehicle in order to steal it.
The woman was reportedly able to return to her vehicle before the male could get in. The suspect reportedly began striking her in the head as she sat in the car, and fled on foot when another citizen stopped to offer assistance at the wreck.
At this point, the report states that the man had removed his clothing and refused to comply with the officers’ commands.
He reportedly ran across the interstate and jumped over the median before being captured by another responding officer.
McCloud is currently in the Hoover City Jail on charges of Third Degree Robbery and Attempting to Elude on a $10,300 bond.
