WALHALLA, SC (WSPA) – The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office says they arrested a Thomasville, NC man over the weekend on multiple charges after a weekend pursuit.
Richard Clayton Bagwell II, 25, of E. Guilford Street was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 4:37pm Saturday.
Deputies responded to a call of a burglary at an address on Jocassee Lake Road Saturday afternoon.
The victim told deputies they saw a man inside the home and the suspect had gotten in by kicking out a window.
As they were responding to the scene, dispatch gave a description of a vehicle that left the scene of a burglary with a man inside.
Deputies saw a vehicle matching the description on North Highway 11.
A deputy says they started a traffic stop on the vehicle but the vehicle did not pull over and passed vehicles on a double yellow line while also speeding.
The chase eventually ending on Razorback Lane as the fleeing vehicle wrecked.
Two people got out of the vehicle and a foot chase started.
The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Bagwell II, was caught, according to deputies.
The passenger in the vehicle wasn’t found.
Bagwell had a suspended license out of North Carolina, according to deputies.
Bagwell was charged with one count of Second Degree Burglary.
He also was issued traffic tickets for Failure to stop for a Blue Light, No South Carolina’s Driver’s License and Improper Display of a Tag.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol also charged Bagwell II due to their investigation of the accident.
Bagwell is in custody on a combined $30,697.50 surety bond.
Also, GPS Monitoring will be a requirement upon release as a condition of a bond.
The charge of Burglary – Second Degree is a felony that carries a penalty of not more than 10 years in prison.
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing their investigation.
