NEW YORK (AP) – Authorities say one New York City police sergeant has died and another was hurt after being shot in a gunbattle with a robbery suspect.
The New York Police Department’s top spokesman says the robbery suspect was killed in the exchange of gunfire Friday in the Bronx.
The condition of the other sergeant is unknown.
Spokesman Stephen Davis says the suspect’s car was pulled over by police who had received a description of someone who had just committed a home invasion. He says the suspect fired on the sergeants who were responding to the scene.
