Abbeville HS student dies after crash in Abbeville Co.

ABBEVILLE, SC (WSPA) – An Abbeville High School student has died after a single-car crash in Abbeville County just after 11:00am, Monday.

17-year-old Kimberlyn Alexis Shelman was driving a 2002 Honda Accord when her car ran off of the right side of Old Hodges Road, hit a ditch, and overturned.

Highway Patrol says she was trapped in the car and died at the scene.

The coroner says Shelman was a Junior at Abbeville High School and was on her way to school when the crash happened.

Shelman was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to the coroner.

The crash happened just north of Abbeville.
